Bidders Pass First Milestone

The HealthChoices Physical Health program has a consistent and nationally recognized track record of success in the 25 counties in three zones to which it has expanded since 1996. The Department now plans to expand that success to cover all counties of the Commonwealth. The primary goals of this expansion, and the continuing objectives of the managed care program statewide, are:

  1. To maintain and continuously improve the accessibility, continuity, and quality of physical health services for all Medical Assistance (MA) consumers

  2. To give consumers more choices among person-centered programs that encourages self-sufficiency and personal responsibility in all health-related and other personal welfare decisions

  3. To improve the stability and predictability of MA spending while sustaining quality health outcomes and appropriate benefit levels

In November 2011, the Department of Public Welfare issued Request for Proposals (RFP) #20-11 to expand the HealthChoices Physical Health Program to 35 counties where it has not previously been offered, in two new zones: the New West and the New East.
